In early 2016 my husband and I emmigrated to Brussels, Belgium from the state of Viginia to experience living life abroad….
The posts made to this site are to capture the memories of our travels and our experiences while living overseas, from Belgium and beyond. It is partly a journal, partly a catalogue to share with others who need recommendations on where to go and what to do.
I was inspired to name this blog “The Great Migration” after reading the book The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson. I found strength in reading the stories about the millions of blacks that worked their way north from the suppressive south, with hopes to create a better future for their families. The power behind this movement, and the resilience and strength of previous generations, have strengthened my resolve in knowing that no matter where we end up, we will be just fine. Because of this, it only felt right to document our story, even if it only serves as a compilation of memories of our time living abroad.
